Because production refs are unversioned, users will seamlessly upgrade between Fedora major releases, so compatibility must be maintained. Removal of functionality will require explicitly announced deprecations, potentially with long deprecation windows. |

Last time we touched this, my understanding was that depending on how/if we end up using Cincinnati (i.e. with dead-end / leaves) we may be able to reduce deprecation timeline (though putting some release on end-of-life). Is that still a thing to look at in the future or is it stopped here?

Cincinnati gives us the technical ability to EOL releases, but that would leave users without security updates until they reinstall, which doesn't seem like a great experience. It seems to me that if we're going to do that, it'll require a longer deprecation window rather than shorter.
