What's new 🚀

Instead of waiting for the text detection and translation to be completed before launching the application, the application will now launch as soon as it can open the image. The current status of the text detection and translation are displayed during this time.

New features 🎉

  • You can now translate to and from any supported language. The new manga-translator-setup step for inputting languages will allow you to list all supported languages for the service you chose.
  • You can now use your service account key for both the Google Vision and Cloud Translation API. The Cloud Translation API key is now optional.

Note: this is not a breaking change, so you can keep your old mtl-config.yml and mtl-cache.bin if you wish.

Docs 📝

The README now includes interactive Google Cloud Shell setups to streamline the process of creating the service account key and the Cloud Translate API key. This should make getting started much easier for those who are not familiar with GCloud.

Implemented a new option to translate an image from your clipboard.

The built-in Windows snipping tool (there are also Linux and Mac equivalents) allows you to freely select a portion of your screen and copies it as an image to your clipboard. Using the new clipboard option in conjunction with the Windows snipping tool makes it much easier to do quick adjustments and translations without needing to save a new image every time.

Changed names of config, logs, and cache. To use this version with your old config and cache, please rename them like so:

cache.bin➡️mtl-cache.bin
config.yml➡️mtl-config.yml

(you can delete your logrus.log file if it exists. A new log file named mtl-logrus.log will be created and used instead.)

Original text will no longer be copied to clipboard when a text block is clicked. Instead, you must click on the text in the "Original Text" section to copy it. Additionally, clicking on the text in the "Translated Text" section will copy the translated text to clipboard.
