If you enabled continues output in the smoothing, tested using color not effect and disabled LED device then it's fine now. The screen output didn't stop/resume/change during the procedure? That's not a good sign as there is no communication between Rpi and Esp for some reason. Did you finally solder pins or use soldered female jumpers for your esp32-s2 board or it's in the 'air' like on the picture? You can perform loopback test to confirm your Rpi SPI interface is working correctly https://www.raspberrypi.com/documentation/computers/raspberry-pi.html#troubleshooting-spi-hardware

I used second pinout next to the esp32 (not s2) board to make a solid connection:
