The embedded-STM32F-lib library is released under the Open Source Initiative MIT (or "expat") license. This license was selected for very important reasons: it provides a very clear indication that the code is open source, and it allows true and free open distribution of the code without placing restrictions on how it is used as a library or plug-in within larger software systems.

One of the reasons for the development of the embedded-STM32F-lib library has been the lack of clarity in extant libraries for the STM32 family of processors. The native libraries from STM have ambiguous licensing that clouds their utility within commercial or community open source projects. Other libraries for the STM32 have been released under the GNU GPL, which unfortunately infringes on the freedom of software developers to use these libraries within closed source projects. We view widespread use of libraries - in both open and closed source projects - as being the lifeblood of innovation.

The License for the embedded-STM32F-lib library is copied, below, for reference. The LICENSE file contained within the release package contains the definitive version of the license.
