DeDRM 6.6.1 not finding/removing DRM from Nook #693
Comments
Is it a comic? Part of its DRM is stored in a separate database. It takes some work to get it DRM-free, and some more work to make it readable outside a nook app. Here's a comment where I explain how to do it: If your rights.xml file has a "permissions" section, just delete everything from the opening to the closing permission tags. This has worked for me in the past, but the last person I saw here with this problem still wasn't able to view the images they extracted from the otherwise apparently DRM-free book. (issue #651) |
OK, thanks. I'll try it when I get home and see how it goes.

Unfortunately I'm running into the same issue as the 651...which is a shame because right now this is the only source for these comics digitally... |
Thanks for the help though! I'll keep an eye here to see if anything changes. |
Ugh... sounds like they might have closed the door on this method then. Thanks for reporting back anyway. Maybe someone can figure out something else. |
For what it's worth, I just purchased a comic, downloaded with the Windows 10 app, and used that method; it worked fine for me. (OP, if you're still having issues, Kobo has that series available now. They don't have everything from that publisher that Nook has - my test title was also from Seven Seas - but rebuying might be better than nothing if you still can't get it to work.) |
Interesting.
I'll break it down and play with it more, and see if I can get it to work
and report back to you. I did find out that Google Play sells the series
and bought it there, so I do have a back up if I need it. I might look into
Kobo though, so if I do do backups, I won't be using an account I worry too
much about.
thanks!

Just to update this thread, I still haven't had a chance to try this again,
but I will report back if I can get it to work after all so that others
don't make my mistakes :)
I've got a few more books I want to try now.

I've had an opportunity to try this again. I'm going to put the pastebin
for my rights.xml file here first.
When I use this file, I don't get any errors in Calibre, but the resulting
image files are blank and unusuable as if they were still encrypted. I'm
not sure what to do.

It doesn't look like you have the rights.xml back in the epub correctly. You shouldn't still be getting that line in the log about it not being "an Adobe Adept nor a Barnes & Noble encrypted ePub." |
Hmm OK I'll double check that when I get back home.

I got it to work! Turns out I was doing a very stupid thing.
I would unzip the archive to a folder, but then when I zipped it back up, I
would include that folder. So the rights.xml would be in the appropriate
folder per your instructions, but I was adding another level to the path
and that's why it couldn't find it.
One note, it would not automatically import my key from Nook for PC,
fortunately I had a backup of my key from before.
Thanks for your help. I don't like buying things from Nook but some Seven
Seas series are only there or on Bookwalker and no one has cracked
bookwalker yet.

Glad you got it working. Good thing you still had a key from before because the ways that DeDRM retrieved the Nook key are broken ever since the old Nook apps stopped working. |
I've put in my credentials, but it doesn't seem like the tool knows what the DRM is. Files are downloaded from the Win10 app, nothing else seems to be able to get the Nook books.
