What do we see as getting in the way of publishing this in beta? If we're using this in production it must be at least ready for that, even if not as an official module.

It needs a few hours of overhaul for the frontend code which has a lot of confusion about async. Callback arguments exist but no callback is passed, callbacks are never invoked, it needs love. Suggest you schedule a time to pair with me on it. I agree this has to be shipped.
