Hierarchy of importance

Chris Millar edited this page Jun 15, 2023 · 5 revisions

Who to consider when making a decision:

  1. What is good for the visitor? - Our site visitors are our most important customer. When weighing a decision, the visitor takes top priority.
  2. What is good for SEO? - Ultimately, search engines are how our visitors get to our site.
  3. What is good for the author? - The people who make the content should have an easy experience and a clear path to building a site.
  4. What is good for the developer? - Yes, you're last. There are exceptions to this rule. If something will be architecturally impossible to achieve or something has to be built in a way that is not maintainable, the developer needs can rise above the others.

*Note: Performance can be grouped with both visitors and SEO. Visitors want a fast page, but a fast page will also make SEO better.
