Description

As @Neilblaze recommended, OpenDigger is considered a proper open source project to apply the GSoC 2025 program.

OpenDigger has some strong advantages in the application includes:

  • Participated OSPP which is program like GSoC in China for past 3 years.
  • A 4 year old project which is not a quite new project initiated in university.
  • Averagely about 10 active developers in each month.
  • @Neilblaze as a member in OpenDigger community is a OSPP contributor in OpenDigger and also a former contributor in GSoC.

And now, since the application will be opened in 2025.1.27, we need to prepare an idea lists with 5 - 6 ideas and put them on the website. The main structure of each idea should be like:

  • Goal: Main purpose of this idea.
  • Mentors: a mentor list of this idea with at least 3 mentors.
  • Languages/skills: The required programming languages and skills to complete the idea
  • Estimate project length: The estimate project length in hours, like 350 hours for hard ones, 175 hours for medium ones and 90 hours for easy ones.
  • Difficulty: Hard, Medium or Easy.
  • Issue link: An issue link on GitHub to have discussions about the idea.
  • Description: A brief description and break down of the task.

Thanks for the mention @frank-zsy! The instructions lgtm! Moving forward, we need to register x-Lab (OpenDigger) asap as a potential org on the GSoC dashboard, which can be accessed here, and the deadline is Feb 11th at 18:00 UTC.

As per our last discussion on Slack, I believe you're taking it forward, but in case any sort of assistance is required, please ping me here (in this issue thread). Seemingly, it's a multi-step form, with a series of questions, which will probably take some time to fill out.

Also, this (or maybe if some more are added) needs to be listed on the official OpenDigger website, possibly here, with the following posts (just like OSPP):

  1. OpenDigger (x-Lab) is applying for GSoC '25

    • List of Potential projects (redirecting to issues / or having specific pages for each respectively)
  2. Resources (if any)
