[Feature Request] Video Page Player & Side Player #1831
Comments
I'd like to offer some personal observations about how my brain functions while using NewPipe vs the official YouTube app... In NewPipe, I can only do one thing at a time, which increases my attention span and focus while watching a video, and also forces me to think harder about which video I want to pick. It also forces me to evaluate a video more carefully before stopping it. In the official YouTube app, I get distracted by tons of things, like related videos, comments, other channels, and I quickly succumb to a feedback loop of "what else is on". I end up getting a lot less value from each video, and become addicted to searching for a video that's better than the one I'm watching. (Cognitive scientists who have studied multitasking discovered that multitasking makes people worse at most tasks. It even degrades people's brains, making them worse at single-tasking!) The YouTube app tends to increase my impulsivity, which can lead me down related video rabbit holes, and generally lose the ability to direct my own behavior. Now, I admit that being able to play videos in the background while navigating helps when I'm creating music playlists. However, the background player solves that problem quite well. My only issue is that it's a bit awkward to switch from the background player to the full screen player, and to manage the playlists. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? |

The official YouTube app has a video player on the video page itself and when you go back to browse Youtube the video player is in the bottom right corner. I think by having some settings to enable/disable this setup will be handy especially for those who are new to NewPipe.
And I believe this is possible since all you need to do for the video page player is use the popup player but have it fixed on the thumbnail spot on the video page and not be able to resize the image.
For the side video player use the popup player itself and not be able to resize it or move it around. And to close the side player just swipe it to the left. Then all NewPipe needs to do is detect if your on the video page and if so no side player. If not the side player is shown.
