You can install by going to your browser's extension gallery:
While untested, it has been reported that the extension is compatible with Microsoft Edge, Chromium version, using the Chrome webstore. For instruction, consult Microsoft Edge Documentation
Once installed, ytcFilter will be available above Youtube livechat. This mean that it's displayed not only on the official Youtube website, but also 3rd party website which embeds the chat.
The first time, you will see the changelog. The changelog will only be displayed to inform you when there is a new update. You may close it.
A button "ytcFilter" is present at the top right corner. Pressing it will open ytcFilter. If no filter are set for a channel, the Filter configuration will be displayed. Filters have the following setting:
- Type: Filter may be applied different properties and using different mechanism. See Filters page for more information
- Value: Some filter may require a value, like a text including some specific text.
- Case senstive: If the filter's value is a word, you can set whether the filter should be sensitive to the case
Once all the settings are completed, you can press "add" to add your new filter to the list.
When a new message in the chat appears, fitting with the criteria you set in your filter, it will be captured and displayed within ytcFilter. This means your chat needs to autoscroll.
Filters and settings are applied for each individual videos. This allow finer customisation between videos which may need different filters. The profile feature allows you to save filters and settings and apply them to other videos, manually and automatically.
Click on the gear icons at the top right to display options.
In the profile section, click on the "+".
Add a name to the profile.
Click "save".
On another video, you can select this newly created profile to apply it.
If you wish to use a profile automatically on new videos for which you never used ytcFilter, you can use the buttons "Set as global default" or "Set as channel default" which are just below.
ytcFilter is entirely run in your browser. This mean that it will not use any bandwidth, and it will not touch Youtube's server, ensuring that it stay perfectly safe to run without any potential ban.
