This guide will show you how to create a simple navigation collection in a Fluid PeopleSoft environment

Created in Portal (IH) PUM Image 3 running PeopleTools 8.55.14

Step 1 - Create a Navigation Collection

Navigate to PeopleTools > Portal > Portal Utilities > Navigation Collections

Click on the Add Collection link:

Give the collection a name (1) after tabbing out of the field the base folder appears (2) from here you add folders and/or links to the navigation collection:

Clicking the "Add Folder" button shown above allows you to add a folder to the root of the navigation collection:

In this example I've added a user defined folder, you can also add an existing folder (and therefore it's children) to the navigation collection.

Once a folder is added click on the "Add Link" button to add in a menu item:

Click on the spyglass to select the link to add to navigation collection:

From the tree select the content reference you want to include in the navigation collection:

Click on OK to complete adding the content reference as a link in the navigation collection:

If you want to add a Fluid page to your collection click on the open in new window checkbox, at this version of PeopleTools it won't display Fluid pages...classic only.

Keep adding all the folders and links you require to the navigation collection:

Step 2 - Create Homepage Tile

Navigate to PeopleTools > Portal > Tile Wizard

Click on the create button:

Give the tile and name and title, then click next:

Complete this page with all the details from the navigation collection just created:

You can alter the security assigned to the tile if you wish, once complete click next:

You can alter the look and feel of the tile and where the tile appears, if required, click next when done:

Click Publish when you're happy:

Step 3 - Add to Homepage

So that's the navigation collection and tile created!
You can add it to a fluid homepage definition or add it to your own homepage by selecting the home button and Personalise Homepage from the action menu:

Click on the Add Tile button and select your new tile from within the PeopleSoft Applications folder:

Click on the Save and the button will appear on the selected homepage:

Clicking on the tile will show the navigation collection on the left pane of the page:

Step 4 - Migration

If you need to migrate the build to another environment then add the navigation collection folder (including child content references) in to a project in Application Designer. Also include the tile and homepage in to the project and copy the project to the target environment.

Open Application Designer and navigate to Insert > Definitions into Project...

Select "Portal Registry Structures" for the Definition Type, find your navigation collection folder, select it, click on Include Children and click Insert:

Check that all your navigation collection folders and links are included, click on the Upgrade tab and double click on the "Portal Registry Structures" tree item:

NB. There is a bug when using this functionality to display Query Manager and Query Viewer in PeopleTools 8.55.14 and .15. To work around this set the link to open in a new window when adding these in to the navigation collection. In PeopleTools 8.55.12 it seems to work.

Update: Oracle Support says the fix is in 8.55.16
