DirectQII

The Direct3D 11 API

Direct3D 11 was chosen as the target API because it is the most sane and with the least amount of bullshit. The objective was to do a clean and high-quality port of the original renderer, so you won't see realtime global illumination, normal maps, HDR/bloom effects, or 256-bit SSAO, GTFO or RFLMAO here. As a general rule, if it wasn't in the original renderer, it won't be here either; if you want to see clowns and jugglers go to the circus.

How Video Modes Work

Set vid_fullscreen 0 for a windowed mode or vid_fullscreen 1 for a fullscreen mode. I don't currently offer a borderless-windowed mode, but if I ever add one it will be vid_fullscreen -1.

In a windowed mode set vid_width and vid_height to your desired width and height, followed by vid_restart to apply the changes.

In a fullscreen mode set vid_mode to the mode number you wish to use, followed by vid_restart to apply the changes. Video modes are correctly enumerated from your display hardware rather than the engine having a hard-coded list of modes. A fullscreen video mode includes width, height, refresh rate, scaling and scanline ordering combined in a single mode.

Set vid_mode to -1 to select the best available fullscreen video mode. This has no effect on windowed modes.

Set vid_vsync to 0 or 1 to toggle vsync off or on; this does not need a vid_restart.

Set vid_gamma to your desired gamma value; values between 0.7 (brighter) and 1.0 (darker) generally work well. This does not need a vid_restart.

How Music Works

Music is supported in .mp3, .wma and .ogg formats. This is a fully-functional implementation that supports all of the features of the original CD audio system, and CD audio is no longer supported.

You must have the appropriate codecs installed on your system for a given music file format to work.

Place music files in gamedir/music, named track02, track03, track04 and so on (for reasons of compatibility with the original CD music, and any mods that might depend on it, track numbering begins at 2); where "gamedir" is your game directory (i.e. baseq2, rogue, xatrix, etc). If music is not found in the game directory it will fall back on baseq2.
