PR checklist

  • Read the contribution guidelines.
  • Ran the shell script under ./bin/ to update Petstore sample so that CIs can verify the change. (For instance, only need to run ./bin/{LANG}-petstore.sh, ./bin/openapi3/{LANG}-petstore.sh if updating the {LANG} (e.g. php, ruby, python, etc) code generator or {LANG} client's mustache templates). Windows batch files can be found in .\bin\windows\. If contributing template-only or documentation-only changes which will change sample output, be sure to build the project first.
  • Filed the PR against the correct branch: master, 4.1.x, 5.0.x. Default: master.
  • Copied the technical committee to review the pull request if your PR is targeting a particular programming language.

Description of the PR

During the 4.0.1 release, we discovered that the Maven and Gradle plugin samples weren't being effectively tested by CI. Maven has already been added to travis builds via #3087.

cc @wing328
./gradlew needs to be run from the plugin's directory rather than root. Do you know if wrapping a command in parentheses in Travis will report success/fail for the wrapped command?

edit: n/m I tested it with an intentionally broken commit and it does work as expected. The issue I was thinking about may only be related to maven plugins and not shell processes.

This has existed in the repository for a while, and I've had no issues building. I no longer have this version of oracle's Java, which caused builds to fail (I use jenv). I've changed this to 1.8, but we may want to remove .java-version from the repo entirely if this causes problems.

Shippable failure was container setup failure in downloading dependencies. Merging this since it should have no effect outside of Travis.
