I'm pretty sure this is the case in present master, but not in the 1.0.0 release. To avoid misunderstandings from screwing up in git (as I often do) I did a clean "git clone" into a temp directory and ran as another user.

Looks like the note off for the base note never gets sent or something like that.

Turn down the speed and look at the keys/pianoroll.
Alternate directions up and down.
Play with the instruments release settings.
