Hello there, I was listening to the default songs that come with LMMS and I must admit that most of them are very awful. We should remove most of them and leave only 10 nice songs to show all the features of the program.

Since this can easily be done. How are we going to determine which songs to remove and which songs have already been removed?

I agree with Coppolaemilio, the demo songs are not representatives of the actual quality of the software.

But I disagree for the 10 songs limit, nothing impose to limit the demos to 10...
I think we should get the best songs as possible in a certain variety of style, no matter the numbers of songs, since the file size are generally pretty small.

We could launch a contest and use the "LMMS Sharing Platform"...
http://lmms.sourceforge.net/lsp/index.php

but we need to fix some rules...
I think the songs must not use any LADSPA nor VST plugins and only the sample comming with the software installation to be playable "as is"...

How can one tell if ldasp or vst was used? it will be hard to determine
though. Unless we require the mmp be uploaded as well.

And they must be ready for the next stable version !

-> eagles : Well, the idea of a "contest" is to make brand new songs expressly for that, so, this problem would be avoided...

But maybe it is too late to organize that before the next release...

Ok just checking as the guidelines were rather vague.

Along the same lines: have we done anything to remove samples (and projects?) where the licensing is either not clear or not-compatible? So many resources just magically exist with no attribution. If this hasn't been fixed, could someone point me to the bug or ask me to file a new bug? I can reference the ML conversation from a few years ago.

@pgiblock Yes, all the covers were removed.

(on subject) Perhaps a contest on facebook? -Right now 'all' conversation around lmms does take place on facebook, so there ought to be a decent userbase there, and surely, some would like_their_ song to be in the demo-pack -thoughts?

Calling everyone! Do you know about a free form site which block users from submitting multiple responses? Or do you know how to collect IP adresses with Google Forms or making a valid email address necessary to submit the form?

I'd love to participate. I'm an EDM producer and have a big room house
track coming up that uses no vst's at the moment.

We could do a contest via email, where the artists send their song to
example@example.com then we can all look vote for the top ten, then get
their project file.

doesent facebook have some kind of embedded player(??), and a poll / vote-for feature? -At the moment, with no forum, fb is the communication platform for lmms, (but it sucks somewhat that a pure lmms-event should generate trafic on fb :/ )
..In fact a 10-top-of-this-release contest, could be made at every release, except pure bug-fixers ofcause -just a thought.

Before we do this, I think it's crucial that we finish the new sample pack for LMMS in which I am currently working with other producers on. That would get rid of our "changing the demo's" problem and let people test out the new pack.

Closed per #1074. Please issue a pull request for removing or adding further changes to the default projects as "awful" is quite qualitative and doesn't really lend help to those willing to fix them (or alternately be more specific next time). 😄
