Error message after 'python setup.py build_ext --inplace' is:

gcc: error: idelucs/kmers.c: No such file or directory
gcc: fatal error: no input files
compilation terminated.

I have seen this problem in the new versions of setuptools. You may need to manually compile the Cython files first e.g cython kmers.pyx
