The monitor test gets some times hung for no apparent reason. This is an old problem even before the tests were rewritten in Python. I remember a workaround to fix the test was to write down the output of monitor to a temp file and then read the file. I rewrote the test to wait until is done and then check its status code. I run it several times, it works.
