Since Publication Date is not pulled from the citation.tsv and is system generated we do not currently display this field for Advance Search. However, I spoke with Liz and we believe that Users will want to be able to do an Advance Search on Publication Date in the Dataset Citation section. Hopefully this wont be too difficult to implement since we already have a Publication Date facet and can do Basic Search for Pub Date.

Rather than Dataset Citation (which is generated dynamically) what if it is in a separate, general block? Especially since Publication data applies to all objects (dataverse, dataset, files). We could try to figure out a few more "General fields" to add (this would be were a general description could go). Maybe creator?

Eleni and I talked about this a few days ago and we agree that Publication Date should be kept in the Datasets: Citation Metadata section on the Advanced Search page. Since that is where users will be used to it being located based off the metadata section of the dataset page, it makes sense to keep it there for consistency. We could add in Publication Date for all three blocks since Publication Date relates to all three objects.

@posixeleni Since this isn't a metadata field from the tsv, Phil can place this publication date field on the Advanced Search page either on the top above Dataverses or at the bottom of the page. Which one would you prefer?

@pdurbin and I spoke and we decided that the best place to display Dataset Publication Date in Advance Search without it being in the actual Citation Block is for it to display between: Dataverses and Dataset Citation Block. This is not the most ideal solution but for the long term we can reconsider this when we enable the ability for folks to enter/schedule a publication date ahead of time (embargo date #343) at which point in time publication date will be in the tsv and will show up in the correct block for Adv Search.

You can now search for dataset publication date from Advanced Search. For now you should only expect to find studies based on entering an exact year.

(The general ticket for better supporting range queries is #370 but perhaps a ticket should be opened for how the UI/UX should be when searching date ranges. Maybe there could be a calendar picker.)

Moving to QA.
