filter_button to publications

Is there a way to add filter_button (from projects.md) to publications? I hope to categorize my papers by semantic labels. The filter button feature in Portfolio widget is sooo good! I tried to directly copy the filter_button yaml section to publications.md, but it doesn't work out of box.

You can change your publications archive page to a publications widget page. Then a Portfolio widget can be added to that widget page (or, more easily, the existing homepage) to filter publications by tag. There's a similar example in the Portfolio template.

Projects and the Tag Cloud widget are also ways to group content together.

The site search can also be used for (more efficiently) searching by tags/authors/etc.
