How to further customize the page?

I am new to the hugo. I have just forked https://github.com/wowchemy/starter-academic and clone to the local folder ./starter-academic/, it displays successfully. I also follow the instruction of the deployment in https://wowchemy.com/docs/guide/deployment/.

But I have problems with some customization, such as changing the size of avatar or changing the font size of menu bar. I have seen some discussion like https://github.com/wowchemy/wowchemy-hugo-modules/issues/1151. But I can not find the file custom.css in ./starter-academic/assets . or any other files that I can adjust the style of the website. Do I miss some operations or I have to add by myself?
