This FAQ applies to Cloak V1 and not cloak v2.

Q: I don't want Cloak plugin!

A: Use this script.

Q: Cloak is too slow.

A: At first make sure that you have enabled BBR. Then if it didn't fix your problem, use iperf to measure speed of your server (TCP connection). You should not expect a speed higher than that.

Q: It's not connecting.

A: What a general question! Check these steps. If the problem didn't fix contact me through Telegram or open issue

  1. Check if shadowsocks-server server is running. If the shadowsocks-server is running but you can't connect, check firewall. Also if you are using Windows as client, DO NOT use QR Code or ss:// link. Read More
  2. If not, run it again with systemctl restart shadowsocks-server. If the server keeps failing to start, continue reading.
  3. If you are on Debian 8, most of the ciphers don't work. Check that you have chosen a compatible cipher.
  4. If the error is about "cannot bind on this port", check if the port you choose is currently in use or not.
  5. If the error is about permissions, open issue.

Q: Does this support IPv6?

A: I haven't tested this on any IPv6 machine. But probably yes. Because both shadowsocks-libev and cloak support IPv6.

Q: Is it safe to publish shadowsocks server?

A: Probably no. Government can block your IP Address by digging it from ss:// link. But it must be safe for private usage. Because to DPI, it looks like HTTPS traffic.
