Categories and Tagging

Sometimes it can be hard to figure out how to categorize a post, and what tags to add to it. Here are some guidelines to get you started.

Categories

Story

Stories are about experiences. Whether it be migrating to new servers, deployment orchestration, broken software, whatever, this belongs in the story category.

Open-source

The open-source category is specifically for diving into projects, and exploring the source, the problems it solves, the underlying philosophy, etc. If this is about your own project, please categorize it under story.

Opinion

Opinion articles are basically anything that really gets you going, but still pertains to the open source philosophy. For an example see our article on Opening Schools to the Students. If it doesn't pertain to a specific project or experience, it probably belongs here.

We are always open to adding new categories if necessary, and if we feel your article fits better in another we will move it.

Tags

Tags are how new posts are recommended to readers at the bottom of an article, and typically should be key buzzwords that are included or covered by your article. It's helpful to refrain from added the category to the tags, and avoiding very generic tags. These will be reviewed before publishing.
