Not doing anything when pressing power control on or off #63
Comments
Sorry about the slow reply. What country are you in? This seems to be playing a part as some countries are running slightly different protocols. Have you tried using the on and off btn's yet as if they work it may just be that there is a bug stopping the request for the version. Have herd of the problem before on non UK strips |

James,
I am in the United States. I am not a developer by no means. I am more of a script kiddy. I was able to determine that you are using a kasa.py script. I can run manually and get the device info. When I try to run the script to toggle the port it locks. I have tried both via name and slot number. If there is something you want me to try I can...
Thank you,
Kevin

Hi, When you talk about toggling the port, are you trying to use a different port number to connect to the smart strip or are you referring to port as in the use of one of the plugs on the smart strip. Unfortunately, the plugin will only work if you leave the smartstrip on the default internet connection port. In terms of helping what would be great is a step by step screenshot showing what you are doing as i can't actually test myself the smartstrip as i don't own one. Instead i rely on people such as yourself to work to debug the code. However, this has worked in the past which is why i'm curious of your issue. |
When I refer to toggling I am referring to turning on and off. The only thing that I have done is add the ip and name the ports. I have been able to use a different kasa library to do this function. The weird thing is the library script will show all the right info using discovery.
If you know of something more I should try let me know.

I'm having the same issue but I'm only having it on 1 of my 3 printers. The other 2 work flawlessly. Quite frustrating knowing it can work but no reason as to why it's not. Pi and KP303 connected to the same mesh node, (same as the other printers and kp303's) I used another tplink plugin and it could control the plugs but shut down randomly during a print, so I'd rather use this one. I'm in the US too |
I have a HS300 coming in this week and will test it. Opening another ticket for my KP115 |
This seems to be a common thread appearing with the US plugs. They from what I am aware seem to be using a newer protocol that nobody else is and its a mixed bag across the market in terms of knowing which devices have which software on them. There is an alternative more complex plugin called TP Link Smart Plug but from speaking with this developer he also is having these troubles going back about 6 months. Although more complex if this isn't working you could try his as he uses a different protocol when connecting and resultantly you may have some look. I contacted TP-Link but had no reply asking for support. @stephenfeather Your also in look as the HS300 is also now officially supported after one person volunteered to develop the support for an additional 3 sockets. |
Excellent. I'll see if I can break out some time to test. I'm finding that the devices switch back to "local only" frequently and need to be reset. This makes them in accessible from even the official KASA app. |
I've seen a little weirdness with my US KP303 too. It works, but will miss a turn-off or turn-on sometimes it I've toggled them via google home or something. Will have to find some time to run the py code manually and see what's happening. Anyhow, thanks for this great plugin! |
I just purchase a KP303 for my printer to use this very plugin. I installed it and configured it to the instructions on the website. The device Name and firmware is underfined and does not allow me to enter the data. I have rebooted the RPI multiple time and restart octoprint even more times. I have configured the ports and tried to enable the power button on the navbar. Only one ON and one OFF will show up.
I have even tried installing on a fresh install of octopi and same thing. Can someone give me direction on the next steps to try or point me to debug logs that I can attach.
I can talk to the device via kasa so connectivity is not the issue.
Device Info:
Model: KP303
Firmware: 1.0.3
I am running python 3.7.3.
I have been able to toggle the powerports via p-doyles/Python-KasaSmartPowerStrip library. I tried this after not getting the plugin to work.
https://github.com/p-doyle/Python-KasaSmartPowerStrip
Any help would be greatly appreciated
