Literature curation: What is it exactly?

christian-oreilly edited this page Apr 21, 2017 · 1 revision

To avoid any confusion, here is the definition of literature curation that will be considered in the context of this specific project. Curating the literature on a specific subject is the process of :

  1. Identifying documents in the literature related to a specific topic;

  2. Annotating some informations in the text of these documents. These annotations :

    1. Must be precisely localized in the document so that their origin can be traced back easily and quickly.
    2. Must delimit explicitly a small part of the document considered particularly relevant by the curator.
    3. Can contain a comment which explicits the relevance of the annotation; no comments may be provided if the highlighted part of the document is self-explanatory (e.g., "region X is connected to region Y with Z% probability").
    4. Should be linked with ontological terms describing relevant concepts (e.g., concerned specie, brain region, cell type, experimental paradigm).
