Recording hardware and software

The following hardware and software can be used for long-term recording of HD videos. For details on processing images, visit the Beesbook Detection and Tracking Pipeline page.

Recording system hardware

Cameras, lenses, and related hardwared.

Flash lighting system

For taking videos with IR light, this is a synchronized flash lighting / camera trigger system controlled by an Arduino The circuit layouts, part lists, and Arduino code, along with detailed ordering/fabrication and assembly instructions are here:

Recording system software

Recording software compatible with Basler, Ximea, or FLEA3 cameras. Updated in 2024. Includes detailed install instructions, tested on Ubuntu 20+.

Recording software compatible with Ximea or FLEA3 cameras, actively used through 2023. Features additional shared memory interface for live preview.

Video Archival Storage

Synchronization software for transferring files (optionally via SSH) and reporting errors via a Telegram messenger bot.

Raspberry Pi recording: Feeder and exit cams

Software for a RaspberryPi and a connected camera that measures activity and records video snippets when there is activity (e.g. for an additional exit camera or for smart feeders). See the repository for usage and install instructions, including setup scripts.
