Description
Yomichan let's ている attach to itself, leading it to 'detect' stuff like まっててててててててて as one word
2021-03-19-20:28:32
Also not like it matters, but in words like 待っていく it falsely detects the 連用形 of いる – compared to just い, which has no matches for いる

Yomichan version
21.2.28.2

This is also the case for some other chains, notably なくなくなくなくなくなくなくなく. You're right that there isn't great handling for this currently.

What's happening in your first case is:

  • てて => てる (due to -te)
  • てる => て (due to progressive or perfect)
  • (repeat)

What's happening in your second case is:

  • 待ってい => 待っている (due to masu stem)
  • 待っている => 待って (due to progressive or perfect)
  • 待って => 待つ (due to -te)

For your final comment on い, いる is matched, but so many other terms take higher priority that it doesn't show up as the most relevant term.

Oh you're right my bad, it's all the way at the bottom. I thought it was coded in to be ignored, so I thought I would mention (て)いる matching い as well ^^

Although technically a bug, this really doesn't happen in regular Japanese text. Maybe a better way of handling it exists, i.e. imposing a limit on the number of possible matches of one type, but due to its extremely low priority, this is being closed for now.
