After update to v5.10 close button does not minimize to taskbar (dash to dock) on Linux #28824

Steps to reproduce

OS: Debian GNU/Linux 12 (bookworm) x86_64
Host: ThinkPad L13 Gen 3
Kernel: 6.6.69-x64v3-xanmod1
Resolution: 2560x1440
DE: GNOME 43.9
WM: Mutter
WM Theme: Adwaita
Theme: Colloid-Dark [GTK2/3]
Icons: WhiteSur-dark [GTK2/3]
Terminal: tilix
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 PRO 5675U with Radeon Graphics (12) @ 4.388GHz
GPU: AMD ATI 07:00.0 Barcelo
Memory: 4302MiB / 14813MiB

  1. v5.9 close button minimize to "dash to dock" and app is shown in overview.
  2. v5.10 close button send app to background, dash to dock does not show app as launched, app does not show on overview.

Expected behaviour

Close button minimize to "dash to dock" and app is shown in overview.

Close button send app to background, dash to dock does not show app as launched, app does not show on overview.

Hmm, it would be interesting to understand why the app is sent to the background instead of just being minimized. When minimized, you can easily switch back to it and view the counter, for example. Personally, I don't see much point in sending it to the background, especially when the tray icon is disabled.

People without tray were asking for the app to reside in background to have notifications

Changing behaviour that existed for a long time without offering the option to restore it is a very strange idea.
