Apply transformation in supported format, then convert to WebP is the current workaround. But yes, direct support for WebP would be appreciated

In fact, it would be nice to document which are the currently supported image formats because I have not found this information anywhere.

It actually depends on Java version and ImageIO plugins available on the same. It varies, so difficult to document it.
