Android - notes visible when should be locked

When I leave app and return to it later, my notes are still visible for a second before they lock. This causes privacy issues e.g. if I return to phone later to show someone something my notes will be briefly visible before they lock. Or if I scroll through my currently open apps in front of someone, the notes will be visible.
