Possible to temporarily disable the history module?

Is it possible to temporarily disable the history module while I stream updates to the editor? I want the user to be able to hit the undo button once to revert all changes the server just made (e.g. if it just wrote a few sentences). Ideally I'd like to just call something like history.pause() when I start streaming content then history.resume() when it's finished. Is anything like this possible?
