Bug description

People I call via Signal Messenger experience an echo of themselves. I don't hear an echo of myself!

This echo problem started with an Signal update around 3 month ago persists since than!

No matter which settings are chosen, direct call connection or via the Signal server, with or without date reduction!
Neither WiFi nor GSM connection makes a difference!
Neither with headphones or without makes a difference!
No matter who gets a call, people with iPhones or Android phones everyone experience an echo of themselves!

The echo problem appeared on both devices, Samsung Galaxy S5 (klte) with Lineage 16 as well as on Samsung Galaxy S5 Mini (kminilte) with Lineage 14.

No Signal update (including the December one) solved the echo problem!

No other messenger on those devices has that echo problem!

@OnAirDroid thanks for the logs. We have added some flags for those devices, so if you try again it might work without echo. If not, please send an updated log file taken right after a call. Thanks!

Thank you very much @jim-signal. The echo is gone!

Are those flags you have set specific to my device or phone number?
In other words, will I get get the echo back when I register another phone number on one of my device?

@OnAirDroid Those flags are specific to the device model, the two different flavors of the S5 in this case. We adjusted those models to use a different audio interface. In our testing, most LineageOS devices worked better with an alternative audio interface we started using a few months ago. But unfortunately, there are always exceptions.

Glad it worked for you!

Hello,

I have the same problem on my Oneplus 3T with lineageOS 18.1 (android 11) and microg. Since about ~3 or 4 months, the people I call get echo. I'm using apk from the website.

here is my debuglog:

I can open a specific issue if you prefer.
thanks

@Erlotinib We've added your device model to the config. Please try again and let us know if it helps.

Thank you, after a short test it seems to be fixed :)

Since I didn't update the client I guess it's a server-side config?

anyway, thanks again

@Erlotinib Great news!

it's a server-side config?

Yes. I am going to close this issue.
