This issue is for discussing and implementing a feature where the Scribe UI can be hidden. As the UI does take up a lot of the screen, a way to hide the Scribe command elements would be helpful as it would allow some users to get a simpler interface when the commands are not needed. This would be dramatically better than the user switching to an equivalent system keyboard.
As of now a working idea would be that long holding the
Scribe key
could turn off the command interface, which would in turn color one of the buttons on a normal system keyboardscribeBlue
(for example, thereturn
key). Long holding this key would in turn show the command UI again. As of now this solution sounds better than simply adding another key to the keyboard when the UI is hidden or requiring users to remember a gesture to show the Scribe commands. This would also fit well as the return key turningscribeBlue
is already part of the system UI. Feedback on this idea would be appreciated before an implementation is undertaken.Of note is that hold-to-press keys would need to be edited as those on the top row would be being cut off (UI elements cannot exceed the height of the keyboard view).
