Spike-free CHM/DSM algorithm in lasR?

It would be very useful to have Khosravipour's spike-free DSM generation algorithm in lasR, as it is in lidR.

The reason it is not in lasR is because I believe it is an outdated algorithm. I mean, when point cloud densities were 5 pts/m² it was a good idea. Nowadays points clouds are not below 20 pts/m². This considerably reduce the interest of this algorithm which is extremely expensive to compute. From 20 pts/m² a basic point to raster algorithm does an equivalent job in a few milliseconds. I'm opened to discussion about the topic. But this is the reason it is not in lasR right now.
