Found out that the order of "adjusted" and "unadjusted" in vector defined at the below line of "scale_adjusted" breaks the legend in ggplot such that color and shape are not combined. Flipping the order of these definitions seems to fix the problem (i.e., values = c("adjusted" = 15, "unadjusted" = 19)).
