Are the plans to support other video formats such as mkv in the future?

In most cases the codec used is the same right? So I wonder if in such cases the file can be modified directly instead of having to remux it first.

My use case concerns https://github.com/chaudum/rgain3 which uses mutagen as its backbone.

For Matroska support there is issue #3, also related WebM support in #396
