This nightly has been on PyPI for over 6 years, and the wheel size has gotten larger as the project expanded (it looks like from ~1MB to 7MB), with an average size over that time of 4MB. This project gets about 60,000 downloads a month (per pypistats.org), and the main tensorflow_probability project gets around 1.5million.
The nightly release is tested against the latest numerical libraries (TensorFlow, numpy, JAX), and helps users have a stable "known good" wheel to work with. Given that TensorFlow nightlies have not been including big changes lately, and that JAX/numpy does not release nightlies, we do not expect our release sizes to increase much in the future. If anything, we may consider slowing the release cadence.
How large is each release?
~7MB total, a single wheel. It does not include documentation or tests or any example data I could find.
How frequently do you make a release?
This is a nightly release. It seems like an extra 10GB would provide about 4 years of space. We would also think about lowering the cadence to something like weekly to give 30 years of runway.
