While working on astropy/astropy.github.com#590 , I compared what we had in affiliated/registry.json and what you had in _data/packages.yml. I noticed that your YAML had no dedicated field for package name registered for PyPI ("pypi_name") like we had. For now, I assume your "package_name" is the same as how a package would appear on PyPI. But will this assumption always be valid? Please advise. Thank you.
