Fix tests in this Repo

It seems the tests here are failing right away, and are severely lacking to use as any insurance of changes not breaking anything.

It would be amazing if someone wanted to give the ./specs in this repository any love, so that they can accomplish the following:

• Firstly, pass at all, as currently they fail no matter what.
• Secondly, help ensure that any changes made to this repository don't break the functionality for end users.
