Cheese Grater is a granular sample and loop. Feed an audio source into it, press and hold the sample button, then play around with the parameters to affect how that sample is granulated.
This simple example puts a sine wave into the audio input on Cheese Grater. Press the green button to sample the sine wave. The longer you hold it the longer the sample. Once you have a sample, play around with the knobs to affect the granulation. Note that while the sample is playing back the audio input is ignored.
- L/R Audio / Sample Input - Audio input that is sampled while the sample button is pressed or the sample gate is high.
- L/R Audio Output - Audio output of the module. No audio is sent out while sampling.
- Sample Button - Press and hold to sample the input audio.
- Sample Gate Input - Functions like the sample button when high.
- Frequency Knob - Controls the frequency the output sample is played at. When set to C4 the output is played at the same frequency as the input sample.
- V/Oct Input - Controls the frequency the output sample is played at. Each volt above or below 0 shifts the output sample one octave.
- Consistency Knob - Controls how many grains are playing at once. When turned clockwise more than one grain plays at once. When turned counter-clockwise there is a gap between when grains play.
- Consistency CV - Modulates Consistency Knob.
- Consistency Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Consistency Knob.
- Grain Size Knob - Controls how long each grain is. When grain size is below 0 weird stuff happens.
- Grain Size CV - Modulates Grain Size Knob.
- Grain Size Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Grain Size Knob.
- Spread Knob - Applies a sine wave to the start time of each grain. Increasing this knob increases the frequency of the sine wave.
- Spread CV - Modulates Spread Knob.
- Spread Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Spread Knob.
- Spread Strength - Controls the amplitude of the sine wave applied to the grain start time by the Spread Knob.
- Spread Strength CV - Modulates Spread Strength Knob.
- Spread Strength Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Spread Strength Knob.
- Spread Randomness - Adds a random offset to the start time of each grain. When turned clockwise the randomness is softer. When turn to the left the randomness is purely random.
- Spread Randomness CV - Modulates Spread Randomness Knob.
- Spread Randomness Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Spread Randomness Knob.
- Slices of Toast - Turn this up to layer up multiple grains at the same time. Use this to add more depth to a sound. It is especially useful when
grain size
orconsistency
is below 0. - Slices of Toast CV - Modulates Slices of Toast Knob.
- Slices of Toast Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Slices of Toast Knob.
- Slice Separation - Controls the length of time between each
slice of toast
starting. - Slice Separation CV - Modulates Slice Separation Knob.
- Slice Separation Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Slice Separation Knob.
- Slice Depth - Controls where in the sample each slice of toast comes from.
- Slice Depth CV - Modulates Slice Depth Knob.
- Slice Depth Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Slice Depth Knob.
Expander
Added through contextual menu
- Clock Sync input - Triggers the sample to start playing from the beginning.
- Playback Mode - If clock sync input is connected and this is set to "One Shot" then the module only only play once for each Clock Sync input received.
- Length Knob - Controls the size of the Buffer that is actively being scanned.
- Length CV - Modulates Length Knob.
- Length Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Length Knob.
- Start Knob - Controls where in the buffer the grain starts from.
- Start CV - Modulates Start Knob.
- Start Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Start Knob.
- Pitching Mode - Controls how the grains are pitch-shifted when the Pitching Knob is not 0. In Tune, the grains are pitched one octave. In Semi Tuned, grains can also be shifted a perfect 5th. In Detune, the grains can be shifted any amount up to an octave.
- Pitching Knob - Controls how often each of the grains are pitch shifted. When above 0 the grains are pitched up. When below 0 the grains are pitched down.
- Pitching CV - Modulates Pitching Knob.
- Pitching Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Pitching Knob.
- Speed Knob - Controls how fast the play head moves through the sample. When below 0 the play head travels in reverse.
- Speed CV - Modulates Speed Knob.
- Speed Attenuverter - Modifies CV for Speed Knob.
- Pause button - Toggles Pause. When paused the Speed knob is ignored and and acts as if set to 0.
- Pause input - Forces Pause when signal is high.
