DataTable VirtualScroller Positioning

Does anyone have example code that they could point me at to help understand how to position a DataTable at a certain row when using virtual scrolling / lazyload?

The user story would be: as a user I want to scroll through thousands of records, having the ability to click on a row and jump to a new page with further details. When I hit the back-button (navigate back) I want the list to reposition me at the same location in the data table that I was at.

I've been able to load the data table properly, navigate to the detail page, jump back to the data table, but positioning is "wonky". I've played with then VirtualScroller methods (scrollTo, scrollInView, scrollToIndex), but the best results I've gotten is that the data table puts the record (that I want to be at) on at the top of the DataTable and all the other lines are blank. I would love to see working examples of using the VirtualScroller methods.
