Is there a way to disable automatic inline suggestions?

In both VS Code and JetBrains, there's already a useful shortcut (on macOS, it's ⌥\) that triggers the display of the inline suggestion. In some cases, I just want to rely on this shortcut and never show inline suggestions automatically. Is that possible?

One use case: when I have multiple AI code assistants installed, e.g. CoPilot and Codeium, at the same time.

I think this doc on inline suggestions is what you're looking for.

I'm curious about running Copilot and Codeium together? Is VS Code allowing you to select which AI suggestion or completion you want?

That doc shows how to disable the inline suggestions altogether. Unfortunately, it doesn't show a config option to simply disable the automatic suggestion.

To answer your question, this is exactly why I'm looking to disable automatic inline suggestions: so that I can choose one or the other for automatic inline suggestions (or neither) and assign different shortcuts for manual triggering of each engine's inline suggestion.

We shipped this feature a few days ago now :)
The Copilot version that has the fix is 1.84.51. There is a new setting in VSCode (1.77) that can be used to disable the auto complete. Once disabled you can trigger a completion using ALT/OPTION + \ like in IntelliJ. Please note that disabling inline suggestion will disable both, manual and auto completions.

This is a good step for other use cases. But it doesn't help with my use case of running multiple AI assistants.

Why? Because the shortcut available is:

This isn't specific to CoPilot. So how can I have separate shortcuts for different AI assistants?
