Naming new pods for the homepage repository

Hey guys. Having a discussion on naming a block, and someone recommended I move the conversation here for visibility. This new block is going to be specific to the homepage repo. So we would use a convention of "repo name-block name". This is the XD for the page elements
The repo-specific code will be 2 new blocks. One for the "return visitors quick tools bar" (page 1) and another to handle the 3 pod types (page 2).

Some names that have been suggested for the pod block are:

1. homepage-brick (because they are in a masonry layout)
2. homepage-pod

Some suggestions for the tools bar are:

1. homepage-bar
2. homepage-link-bar
3. homepage-tools-bar

Any opinions?

1. I like homepage-pod better, and that's how it's referred to in the xd docs. Only thing is will there be other pods for the homepage that differ from this one?
2. homepage-toolbar ?

I like this idea of prefixing the site name.

I could go either way with homepage-pod or homepage-brick.

homepage-pod makes sense for those familiar with the homepage, since they've been calling that content "pods" for awhile now. Outside of the homepage I wonder how much meaning "pod" has to anyone.

homepage-brick is a bit more synonymous to a masonry gird/layout on the web. Maybe this is a bit more universal?

As far as the tools. Do you know if this content will always be related to "tools" or is it just a collection of links/buttons?

I asked the designer and it's only tools now, but they could see it being used for other links, especially in other geos. So that's a good point. homepage-link-bar is probably better long term. she also suggested hompage-button-bar

Actually, scrap homepage-button-bar. Some geos just use the "link" look, making that inaccurate.

looking at other blocks, I feel like multi-word names have dashes. So wouldn't it be homepage-link-bar instead of homepage-linkbar?

You are probably correct. I was trying to possibly reduce authoring errors, but this would most likely add confusion. Dashes where spaces would be should be the pattern.

@chrischrischris @auniverseaway Do you have guys have any opinions related to this?

I don't know how much weight I carry but as the Consonant PM, and what I'd prefer to call it is homepage-brick to set a new standard going forward in that if we use this pattern or idea going forward, I'd like to shift to call it a brick if it's a "pod" that is always used in conjunction with masonry. Masonry and Bricks have to be used together. Friends!

my fear with that logic is that other blocks can be placed in a section with masonry. We're trying to decide the name of this specific block. So I feel like the name should be more focused on what this block does and not that we are planning to use it in masonry.

That is true, but specifically the homepage pods are always used in context with Masonry and that's what we're solving for. And we are beginning to see the use of these style pods being used elsewhere and when we standardize out from the homepage, I'd like these blocks to remain contextual to their origins. I'd really like to stay calling it homepage-brick, despite the teams calling them pods.
