I've just installed openghg_defs in editable mode and I'm getting a FileNotFoundError:

FileNotFoundError: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '~/Documents/Devel/env/openenv/lib/python3.9/site-packages/openghg_defs/data/species_info.json'

We should update the package to provide loader functions so we don't expose paths as we're doing now.
