Steps to reproduce

1.Open webtoon/comic/manga
2.Leave the app in recents and open another app e.g chrome etc
3.Return to the app to finish reading webtoon after say 2-3 minutes(sometimes even a few seconds)

Expected behavior

Normally you'd expect to continue reading your webtoon where you left off without any problem

Actual behavior

Say you'd left your manga on page 9. Upon return to Yokai through the recents screen either Yokai resets your chapter and you'll start again at page 1 or the app as a whole restarts and you go back to the launch page with the list of manga.

Crash logs

No response

Yōkai version

1.9.7 (every version I've used has had the problem)

Android version

12

Device

itel s662L

Other details

I've been using TachiyomiJ2K(1.7.4) in parallel with Yokai(1.9.7) and it doesn't have that problem.
I can leave TachiyomiJ2K reliably in the background sometimes for more than 20 mins and still go back to continue reading my webtoon. After accessing it from the recents It doesn't reset, restart or do any weird refresh, just continues where I've left off. I can't do the same for Yokai. Sometimes leaving it for just a few seconds in the background causes it to restart. I've set Yokai to unrestricted in battery usage and the problem persists. Tachiyomij2k is still set to optimized in battery usage but is more reliable.

Thank you. I was going crazy because I was searching the issue tracker the past few days and didn't find anyone mention this.

I noticed I have same issue quite a while ago and always chalked it to some issue from my end. I have a Samsung Mobile on Android 14 with 6gb RAM and tried the following:

  1. Disable battery optimization
  2. Follow Don't kill my App recommendations; Installed Good Guardians even though it isn't available in my country to try make it work and also the locked app from Recents Menu. I even tried the A13's turning off the screen trick. The app gets killed most of the time
  3. Having few apps running in the background
  4. Use RAM Plus ( a feature that allows to use storage as RAM, although I never need it )
  5. Logged out from the tracker service I use
  6. Go to a different menu like settings and stay in background or a comic instead of just leaving in the middle of chapter
  7. And other miscellaneous stuff I don't remember now

I also use Neko, it performs the same as TachiJ2K as you mentioned. Even with battery optimization enabled (I thought I had disabled it), it performs flawlessly most of the time, doesn't crash/restart like Yokai does.

There's just something wrong here. I have enabled Always show crash dialogue (Show a pop-up every time an app crashes) from Developer Options and it only appears for Yokai when I'm in the middle of using different apps or when I pickup mobile and login.

I have some logs from the Yokai folder I can share if needed (seems like only past few days). I don't know where crash dump logs from Settings->Advanced are saved. I can't do more as I got annoyed, uninstalled Yokai and ended up going back to TachiJ2K.
