Dotterel doesn't appear to work in landscape mode

On my S22, when i rotate the screen into landscape mode, dotterel input widget seems to disappear and the phone leaves text entry mode.

Once in landscape mode, attempting to click in a text entry field causes the widget to show up fullscreen briefly before disappearing and leaving text entry mode.

So far, dotterel works as expected in landscape mode on my older Nexus 7, but it does not permit text entry while in landscape mode on my Samsung S22 or my Pixel 3.

Do you know what Android version those devices have? Logs might have a clue as well.

I will grab the logs tomorrow. The pixel3 is running Android 12 and the S22 is running Android 13
