Could we update the bowtie2 module to version 2.5.4 ?
There is a bug in the 2.5.2 with the emptyr eads which makes the nf-core-hic pipeline crashing.
According to the bowtie2 changelog, I think the bug has been fixed now.

PS ; I can make a pull request to update the environment.yml but I do not know how to update the mulled singularity image ?
