Polish (pl) translation #61
Comments
How's that coming together? I'm not familiar with GitHub, but I'm a decent Polish/English writer, so let me know if I can help. I'd love to spread "The Wisdom and/or Madness of Crowds" in Poland. Cheers! |
@sin Do you plan to make translation? There is no pl.html file in your fork. |
I've finished the translation and I'm waiting for proofreaders to finish their part. :) https://sin.github.io/crowds/pl.html @MrMimizu @Chevet Your help would be greatly appreciated, too. The changes are on the gh-pages branch, I squashed all commits so you can see everything in one place here. I was trying to preserve the casual tone of the original when possible, let me know how it turned out. You can comment on individual lines by clicking on the + icon that appears when you hover over the line. Keep in mind the text length is limited by available space. @ncase There's a little issue with the font in Polish. Well, it's more like a fun fact, because it's not that annoying, just weird. I think you may find it interesting. The font you're using in Crowds was created by Austrian designer based on his handwriting. In handwritten German and French it's common to add a stroke in the middle of the capital letter Z, to make it more distinguishable from number 2, so it looks like Ƶ (Z with stroke). The additional stroke is also present in the font. Unfortunately, in Polish – for some reason – it's sometimes used as a variant of letter Ż (Z with overdot), mostly by older people, but quite a lot of people in Poland learned to read Ƶ as Ż. Initially, I was trying to avoid using capital Z (e.g. by avoiding z at the beginning of a sentence), but it's not possible in uppercase headers, or words like Ziemia (Earth), so I gave up. I made some research on this and turns out some experts say Ƶ is just Z with a decoration, and it could be used also as Ź… at this point I decided to just ignore this issue. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ |
I remember once, for a problem on a math final exam, I meant to write "Z" but it looked like a "2", so that messed up all my calculations. This was a multi-part problem. I messed up the first part. It messed everything else up. So, yes, I very much empathize with Ƶ edit: Anyway – let me know when the translation's ready to go, and send a Pull Request! :) |
