I would like to discuss rmpc in tmux

I checked mierak/rmpc#93,I understand that this issue is not perfectly resolved at this time.I understand that the author is working on other issues, in the meantime this one is just a bit hard for me (writing code using nvim in another window, returning to rmpc but its cover is missing), I don't think this is something that needs to be dealt with right away so I didn't open an issue, I'm just trying to find out if the author has some ideas in this area.

I am aware of this issue and would like to fix it as well because its a problem in my use case too. Rmpc still sends the image to the terminal even when it is not in the active window, but tmux does not propagate the image when the window becomes active again.

There are several things that can be done but none are(or were not) satisfactory enough:

• Listen to focus events - this will not work if you switch from vim window to window with rmpc and rmpc is not the focused pane in the window
• Poll tmux status - I don't like that it continuously executes tmux even when it is not needed to do so
• Tmux hooks - could be possible now with the new IPC functionality introduced here now that I think about it, but feels hard to get right
• Being a full fledged tmux control mode client - seem a bit overkill, hard to get right and would make rmpc show as connected client

With that said, I am looking for ideas/PRs

Thank you very much for your answer, this issue seems really complicated. The only mpd client I know of at the moment is rmpc which supports advanced features such as displaying images in the terminal as well as lyrics, so it occurs to me that it could be very tricky to answer some of these questions (since people may not have had to deal with them before). Finally, I wish you all the best.

I will try to have another go at it sometime after the next release which should be soon-ish™. The hooks approach could be somewhat usable, so I will see what I can do. I still need to get at least two things done before the release happens though.
