Comments
Hi @krrish612 , Thank you very much for your feedback. We are constantly reviewing features on the VS Marketplace with the goal of improving key features and removing features that are not key to the developer workflow. Based on our data and analysis, "Download Extension" was not part of the inner developer flow that we are constantly trying to optimize, so we decided to no longer support it. VS Code allows right click context menu to download a vsix in the extension search view, example image” Regards, |
@Neelima10735584 , this is not useful advice in environments where VS Code runs on a machine with no internet, and the machine with internet cannot run VS code at all for one reason or another. I work with one such environment, along with many colleagues, and this change is blocking all extension updates and new extension installs. |
Closing as duplicate of #1135 and we can continue the discussion there |
@isidorn Unfortunately you cannot continue the discussion there because you guys simply don't want to. Recently the direct download button was removed for "reasons": #1135 (comment) The stated reason was
Why not just add better UI/UX? The only reason you would remove it completely is if nobody was using it, clearly untrue.... OR if the ones using it weren't using your own IDE. This change has all the appearances of being intentionally directed at users of VS code competitors, but has the sad and very troubling side effect of breaking normal usage for many of us long time VS Code users as well. And if it is a play at competitors, what say if any do the thousands of developers who contributed open-source extensions intending them to available to anyone using the open-source VSC platform? To me this bolded part in the initial response is a bit telling:
Last I checked, there is just a "developer flow". The specific use of the word inner there clearly indicates a delineation between your developers and developers at large. I really hope I'm wrong and we get swift action on resolving this. |
