Issue Type: Bug

In 1.63 and prior versions, the panel had an icon that allowed you to quickly maximize it. That seems to be removed in 1.64. Or maybe there is a setting that I can't find that puts it back.

My solution is to revert to 1.63.

This icon is only available when the Panel Alignment is "Center". This is configurable from the "Customize Layout..." option from the new "Configure Layout" button on the right-hand end of the title bar, or by running the command View: Set Panel Alignment to Center

Similarly but different, I can easily maximize the bottom panel but I prefer my terminal on the right side and sometimes like to maximize it. Unfortunately the new side panel lacks the maximize button that it used to have pre 1.64. 😞

EDIT: My point is mentioned in #141349 (comment).

The command View: Set Panel Alignment to Center brought back my icon. Thanks!
(Seems like the panel changes are generating a bit of discussion...)

@SJLennon your initial request is related to #141094. Probably even duplicate.

@larouxn as you've mentioned - that's separate issue and should be discussed in #141569
